I’ll Be Your Mirror
Curated by Robert Morgan
Opening reception: October 25, 5-8 PM
Morlan Gallery, Transylvania University
Join us Friday night at the opening reception for I’ll Be Your Mirror, an exhibition that showcases Lexington’s queer history and celebrates the work of contemporary gay artists in Kentucky. Curated by the artist and activist Robert Morgan, the exhibition is on view at Transylvania University‘s Morlan Gallery.
Institute 193 is proud to partner with JustFundKY to produce a catalog for this exhibition. Institute 193 was founded, in large part, to promote the work of visual artists living in the Southeastern United States, with a particular emphasis on the sophisticated work emerging in the Bluegrass. Several of the artists Bob Morgan has included in this exhibition have also staged solo shows at Institute 193—including Morgan himself in 2010. I’ll Be Your Mirror showcases the creative vibrancy of the gay community in the present-day while simultaneously applauding the eccentric beauty of the subculture(s) that preceded it. It’s our pleasure to help realize a project that calls attention to groundbreaking Southern art, placed elegantly into a historical context that is too often overlooked.
Morlan Gallery is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 PM. The exhibition will be on view until November 25.
